Certification for specialist training companies and organisations that apply Lean/Six Sigma methodologies

Lean and Six Sigma methodologies promote the elimination of any waste of resources in the management of processes (in the broadest sense of the word: everything that does not contribute value) with a stable behaviour focused on continuous improvement. To achieve these objectives, the human factor is revealed as a fundamental aspect, in particular the competence of key people involved in the implementation, application, maintenance and improvement of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

Against this backdrop, the ISO 18404 standard establishes the standardisation of competency profiles of the different Six Sigma and Lean levels: Green Belt, Black Belt, Master Black Belt (for Six Sigma); or Practitioner, Leader and Expert (for Lean). This allows the training courses of these methodologies to be aligned to each competence level with an international standard, as well as the correct participation and application of these competences in an organisation.

Hence, the AENOR certification in accordance with ISO 18404 provides for two application scenarios:

  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Training Companies: Specialised organisations that provide training in Lean and/or Six Sigma that can opt for certification to demonstrate to third parties that their courses are suitable for the competences established by the international standard UNE ISO 18404. In addition, the organisation that provides the training can request the additional service AENOR Lean/Six Sigma Register, whereby it can include its students in the AENOR Register of staff for professionals trained in Lean (with the three levels of the ISO 18404 standard, in Lean: Practitioner, Leader and Expert).
  • Companies that apply the Lean/Six Sigma Methodology: Organisations that apply Lean and/or Six Sigma that can opt for a certification to recognise their efforts to achieve their objectives in an efficient and systematic way and facilitate their evidence and value to their customers.

AENOR also has a certification model for the Lean Methodology, which consists of nine categories that are assessed in audit: strategy, costs, human resources, quality, production, production means, flows, the development of new products or services, and, finally, external relations, both with suppliers and customers.

There is the possibility to integrate with the quality management system ISO 9001

Once the auditing process has been successfully completed, if the implemented system meets the requirements of the ISO 18404 standard or from the AENOR Lean Management Model, the organisation obtains:

  • The AENOR Certificate for Lean/Six Sigma Training Companies, for Companies that apply Lean/Six Sigma or for the AENOR Lean Management Model.
  • The licence to use the corresponding AENOR mark.
