Desde su creación en el año 1987, el término Desarrollo sostenible, “Satisfacer las necesidades de las generaciones presentes sin comprometer las posibilidades de las generaciones futuras para atender sus propias necesidades”, ha ido evolucionando a lo largo de los años y el concepto de sostenibilidad se ha convertido en un elemento fundamental para organismos internacionales, gobiernos, empresas y sociedad en general. En el centro de debate se encuentra la necesidad de aplicar modelos de desarrollo para alcanzar una sociedad más justa.
Como una nueva
hoja de ruta para lograr un desarrollo sostenible
, Naciones Unidas aprobó la Agenda 2030 que contiene los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, una serie de metas comunes para proteger el planeta y garantizar el bienestar de todas las personas. Estas metas comunes necesitan la implicación activa de las personas, las administraciones y los países de todo el mundo, y requiere un esfuerzo adicional por parte de las empresas.
Hoy se habla de criterios ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) o su equivalente en castellano ASG (Ambientales, Sociales y de Buen Gobierno). Estos aspectos son los que hacen que una empresa sea sostenible a través de su compromiso ambiental, social y de buen gobierno, sin olvidar el factor financiero, y están cada vez más presentes en el día a día de las organizaciones.
Nuevas demandas de la sociedad, nuevos escenarios legislativos, nuevos marcos de actuación, llevan a las organizaciones a enfrentarse a nuevos retos, donde el papel de los grupos de interés cobra especial relevancia. Las empresas con una estrategia de sostenibilidad, en la que se crean relaciones sólidas y mutuamente beneficiosas con las diversas partes interesadas, tienen más probabilidades de mejorar su rendimiento financiero y ofrecer un impacto positivo duradero para la sociedad y para el medio ambiente.

Objectives
The purpose of this
programme in ESG Sustainability
is to train students in the skills needed to lead an organization's sustainability strategy, thus generating value for business and society. Students completing this programme will gain knowledge on every aspect of sustainability.
Specific objectives:
Understand the concept and aspects of responsibility
Understand the policies and strategies that companies can apply to incorporate sustainability into their management
Analyse the impact of sustainability on business management by assessing the risks and opportunities it creates
Identify and prioritize stakeholders and develop a strategy for communicating with them
Understand the development framework of the SDG and the 2030 Agenda
Detail the models and guides available to implement sustainability principles
Learn the latest trends related to the environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects of business activities
Assess each of the environmental, social and governance factors involved in sustainability and define how to communicate them efficiently and transparently
Acquire hands-on knowledge to prepare a Sustainability Report as per GRI standards, as well as the non-financial information statements or the new corporate sustainability reports.
