Certification of business sustainability and contribution to the SDGs

Objectives and benefits of the certification of business sustainability and contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

Since 2015, the United Nations Organisation has proposed developing an ambitious reference framework: the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this regard, this body considers that companies play a key role in achieving the SDGs. For this reason, organisations need to incorporate them into their business strategy. On the other hand, the agents involved in the recovery of the crisis caused by COVID-19 highlight that the SDGs provide the framework for this recovery.

Numerous reviews refer to the SDGs. This is the case with the law on Non-Financial Information, which many companies must use as a mandatory reporting reference.

AENOR has developed a certification model that helps companies analyse and certify the contribution of their sustainability strategy to the SDGs.

AENOR model Certification of business strategy contribution to the SDGs

AENOR proposes a certification model, the objective of which is to cover all the outstanding aspects, generating confidence in third parties and recognising the business contribution to the SDGs. The AENOR Model to certify the contribution to the SDGs covers the endorsement that a company's strategy incorporates sustainability and is aligned with the relevant SDGs for its core business.

The development of this model translates into three important benefits:

  1. To have a global certification scheme for sustainability management aligned with a commonly accepted international reference.
  2. Transfer this commitment to the interested parties.
  3. Make this model compatible with other reports, whether voluntary or regulatory. For example, with the non-financial reporting or Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), among others.

Our objective is to develop a certification model that encourages business contribution to the SDGs, applicable to all types of organisations and sectors, the purpose of which is to respond to the need of different stakeholders. This model strengthens its commitment to Agenda 2030, under the United Nations guidelines.

VINF (Verification of non-financial information), GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and SR10 (AENOR Social Responsibility Model).

After verifying the information that exists based on the requirements of the AENOR Model, the organisation obtains:

  • The AENOR Certificate in SDGs for BUSINESS STRATEGIES.
  • The licence to use the AENOR mark SUSTAINABLE STRATEGY (SDG)
