Destination for digital nomads

Destination for digital nomads

Digital nomadism is a growing phenomenon, a type of work estimated to cover more than 35 million people in 2023 and which could reach 100 million by 2035.

Strategies to attract and retain digital talent

Digital nomads bring digital talent and innovation capacity due to their high qualifications and varied experience. In turn, they demand professional services, provide access to international contacts, and facilitate the promotion of the destination in question by sharing their experiences and attracting international companies, especially those for which they provide services. They also contribute to generating international networks of professionals and companies, providing valuable opportunities for professionals and the local business ecosystem.

The AENOR model of destinations for digital nomads is the certification solution that allows to make visible and promote the transformation strategy developed by cities and territories in this area, generating the following benefits:

  • Attraction of digital nomads, acting as a mark of quality and trust
  • Supports the destination's strategy, helping to align it with actions and results
  • Provides criteria and operational indicators valued by digital-nomads.
  • Promotes synergies and relationships within the community of digital nomads and local agents
  • Recognition and credibility with local agents
  • Provides an independent and expert external view
  • It promotes an improvement that benefits the entire population
  • Recognises efforts made internally and externally
  • Promotes the sustainability of the destination

Main advantages for digital nomads:

  • Greater security and confidence in the choice of destination
  • Ensures the availability of specialised services, information, communication and support channels, oriented to digital nomads
  • Drives the growth of a digital nomad community

To grant the certificate for digital nomads, the AENOR audit team assesses, among other issues, the quality and variety of services provided to digital nomads in the context of each city (communications, business and technological environment with implementation of international technology companies, climate, friendliness of the inhabitants, etc.).

Málaga has become the first city in Spain to receive the AENOR Digital Nomad Destination Certification

Due to its organisation and structure, the Destination certification for digital nomads is compatible and integrable with other management systems applied in Destination management (ISO 9001, UNE 178202, UNE 178601, UNE 178501, etc.).

Once the audit process has been passed, the destination obtains:

  • AENOR Certificate of Certified Destination for digital nomads
  • Licence to use the AENOR Certified Destination Mark for Digital Nomads

Malaga was the first territory to successfully implement and certify the AENOR destination for digital nomads model.
