Objectives

- To understand the importance of providing reliable environmental information about the products and services placed on the market.
- To learn the different types of environmental labels, their features, and uses: certified ecolabels, type I labels; environmental self-declarations, type II labels; Environmental Product Declarations, type III labels
- Learn what an Environmental Product Declaration is, the benefits of having one and the process and requirements for obtaining it
- Acquire the knowledge necessary to understand Environmental Product Declarations based on information from the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).
- Learn what the Product Category Rules (PCR) are.
- Learn the content of an EPD.
- Learn the means to verify EPDs and to provide information on them.
- Learn how to obtain the data needed to draft an EPD using the most important software available to undertake an LCA.
- Learn the benefits of Environmental Product Declarations for ecodesign and as a multi-criteria indicator for applying the principles of the Circular Economy.

3. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD):
3.1 EPD programmes: AENOR Global EPD, ENVIRONDEC, IBU, ADEME-AFNOR; etc.
3.2 Product Category Rules (PCR)
3.3 Life Cycle Assessment for EPDs
3.4 Phases necessary to prepare an EPD.
3.5 Content of an EPD.
4. Verification, approval and registration of an EPD: AENOR Global EPD programme
5. Practical example to analyse EPDs for industrial and construction products.
6. Practical example to obtain the required data for an EPD using LCA software (SimaPro). With a temporary software licence for students.
