New accreditation for verifying annual activity level reports within the EU ETS

15/01/2021

AENOR has recently received accreditation from the Spanish National Accreditation Body (ENAC) for the verification of annual activity level reports for Greenhouse gases (GHG) within the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) at the start of its phase 4. Specifically for the verification of two new activities:

- To verify the levels of activity of installations so that they are communicated to the Spanish Climate Change Office, with the aim of maintaining or modifying the free allowances allocated.

- For 2024, the verification of activity data for emission allocations for the period 2026-2030.

This verification applies to a type of periodic report that indicates whether the activity is maintained or not without changes with respect to the level for which they were assigned free allowances for the new period 2021-2030.

A system that seeks to reduce GHG emissions is the European Union Emissions Trading System, which is a key part of Europe's climate change strategy, representing a fundamental tool for achieving emissions reduction targets at the lowest possible cost, among other things.
