APR Certificate, Food of Spain award

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has completed the judging process of the thirty-third edition of the "Food of Spain Awards 2020," which recognise the work carried out by companies and professionals who have distinguished themselves for producing, offering and disseminating quality Spanish food, as well as their contribution to the development of the Spanish food sector in a sustainable and efficient manner.

In the Fishing and Aquaculture Production category, the Organisation of Associated Producers of Large Frozen Fishing Trainers (Opagac) won the award for the implementation of the mark "Tuna from responsible fishing.," which has allowed the development of the certification of sustainable practices in the tuna production chain, the first of these characteristics worldwide.

The certificate for Tuna from responsible fishing. (APR) certification is based on the UNE 195006 Standard established five years ago in response to the growing demand to guarantee responsible tuna fishing by covering all factors affecting conservation of natural and human resources. Companies that display this quality stamp on their products publicly show a firm, long-term commitment to carefully looking after ocean resources and protecting on-board, extractive fishing working conditions, in keeping with society's current values.
