AENOR has presented the Intensive Care Unit of the Trauma Hospital at the INS Health Centre of Central America the certificate for Good Practices in the Humanization of Intensive Care, making it the first hospital in Central America and the fourth in Latin America to receive this certification.
The "HU-CI Project" (humanizing Intensive Care) is an international multidisciplinary research initiative formed by medical and nursing staff practising in Intensive Care units and it is endorsed by numerous national and international scientific societies. Its aim is to humanize intensive care, focusing on the provision of humanized care in ICUs by establishing standards in their day-to-day practices, and certifying compliance in units that apply for this.
In January 2023, the Trauma Hospital voluntarily applied to participate in a selection process at the Latin American level, in order to be part of the Spanish HU-CI Programme and receive the certification.
Between the acceptance date and today, the Trauma Hospital has worked on a process to provide evidence that demonstrates compliance with the 160 good practices described in the HU-CI Good Practices Manual, divided into 8 strategic lines.
The work is focused on the well-being and comprehensive care of patients and their support network during their stay in the hospital. It also guarantees access to spaces that are suitable for the medical care, rest and comfort of the patient, their support network, and ensures the well-being of medical personnel, who care for and follow-up with the patient once they are discharged from this specialized treatment area.
