AENOR and USAID

04/12/2019

AENOR carries out the verification and certification of the eight projects of the USAID (American Development Agency) Forest protection programme, in an area of 700,000 ha in the Pacific coast of Colombia.

AENOR's responsibilities lie in verifying and certifying the success of the projects in reducing emissions as a result of decreasing deforestation in affected forests, as well as demonstrating the implementation of activities aimed at improving living conditions in the communities that inhabit them and the conservation of biodiversity.

Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) is defined as the management and use of forests so as to maintain biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and potential to perform, both now and in the future, relevant ecological, economic and social functions on a local, national and global scale without damaging other ecosystems (Helsinki Ministerial Conference, 1993).

The forestry management certification is the tool that managers and forest owners can use to show their commitment to responsible forest management.
