Nomen Foods obtains AENOR certification for its coronavirus protocols

12/08/2020

  • This certification recognises the effectiveness of the security measures put in place by Nomen Foods to ensure optimum safety for all its customers
  • The company's activity over the last few months and being part of an essential sector led it, right from the start of the health crisis, to maximise its measures against COVID-19.

12 August 2020. Nomen Foods has obtained certification for AENOR which recognises the effectiveness of the anti-COVID-19 measures it has implemented in order to guarantee the maximum possible safety of its consumers, customers, suppliers and employees. This audit, which began at the end of June, involved both the Nomen Foods plant in Deltebre (Tarragona), and all the processes involved in the distribution chain right up to delivery to the distribution channel.

The AENOR certification is an external endorsement of the effectiveness of safety measures implemented by the company and that it also complies with the guidelines established by the Ministry of Health on matters of COVID-19 prevention and hygiene for essential services. For Verónica Beltrán, Production and Quality Director at Nomen Foods, "thanks to this certification we will be able to assure our consumers, suppliers and customers, as well as our own staff, that they are protected against COVID-19 and that the company has put in place all the necessary health and safety measures to prevent any type of contagion."

The audit involved a review of the protocols and processes that the company introduced within a few days of the health emergency being declared. Aspects such as risk management, organisation measures, occupational health and safety, cleaning and disinfection, as well as training and communication actions were just some of the areas assessed for the audit.

Nomen Foods, one of the leading companies in the agri-food industry, has experienced some very intense months. The demand for rice from the distribution channel saw a massive increase, whereas the demand by the catering sector plummeted. Balances that the company has faced thanks to various factors, including those highlighted by Joan Tomàs, Finance and HR Director of Nomen Foods, "the commitment of our employees, who were able to respond to an increase in demand by the distribution channel of more than 250% because they understood the uncertainty that could be created amongst consumers on seeing empty supermarket shelves."

For her part, Eva Subirá, Director of AENOR in Catalonia, stated that "this certification generates confidence among all the groups concerned, from the employees to the customers and suppliers; a key aspect for the economic and social recovery of the effects of the coronavirus crisis. This major step by Nomen Foods is consistent with the company's service quality and its strive for continuous improvement."
