25/09/2020

  • The institution becomes the first Spanish trade fair operator to obtain this certification, for the health measures and safety protocols implemented to guarantee safe events are held.
  • In addition to assessing implementation in all spaces in the enclosure, AENOR has audited the proper organization of the latest edition of the recently held event, MBFWMadrid, held from 10 to 13 September, which constituted the first hybrid semi-on-site fair held by IFEMA in the COVID-19 environment.

25 September 2020. IFEMA has obtained certification of AENOR for the health and hygiene measures adopted, as well as the protocols developed against COVID-19, which guarantee the safe running of fairs, congresses and events at their enclosures. Thus, the institution has become the first Spanish trade fair operator to obtain this mark.

The AENOR Certification is an external endorsement of the effectiveness of safety measures implemented by the company while also confirming compliance with the guidelines established by the Ministry of Health and the regional and local authorities regarding COVID-19 prevention and hygiene.

In addition to assessing the protection and prevention measures in place, such as thorough capacity checks, regulation of traffic flow of persons attending, temperature control, misting archways, admission by e-ticketing, emergency protocols, permanent disinfection of areas, constant air renewal and crowd control, etc., the AENOR team has audited the latest edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, which was held from 10 to 13 September. The fashion show was the first semi-on-site hybrid event organized by IFEMA, developed with the highest security guarantees for participants at this large international runway show, the organization of which has been recognized as a benchmark event in terms of tackling COVID-19 protocols.

"IFEMA is proud to become the first trade fair operator in Spain to obtain this certification issued by one of the leading certification bodies, and that it endorses the efforts and investments made during the last few months to guarantee a safe return to the trade fair", says Eduardo López-Puertas, General Manager of IFEMA. He also added the "need to resume trade fair activity, as one of the key pillars for invigorating the economy, since it contributes more than 5,000 million euros to Madrid's finances, and helps create 30,000 jobs."

For his part, Rafael García Meiro, CEO of AENOR remarked that "IFEMA has demonstrated that its commitment to serve businesses and society is at the forefront of its considerations, consistent with its position. The company's responsible and now duly certified protocols are boosting the confidence necessary for the sector to quickly recover its significant contribution to the economy".
