22 February, 2019. Costa Food Group achieves the Conform Animal Welfare certification,
AENOR becoming the first white pork producer to achieve this for all of its livestock holdings (its own and integrated facilities), as well as the entire production process: from raising the pigs (Piensos Costa) to their transformation (Costa Food Meat), and the acquisition of the meat products (Casademont). "We are very pleased with this recognition, which demonstrates the commitment of our brand and employees to both animal welfare and consumers, in order to make natural products available from the source", indicates Jorge Costa, Managing Director of Costa Food Group, who points out: "We are also the first national group with more than 600 livestock farms to achieve this certification".
The AENOR Conform Animal Welfare certificate accredits that companies comply with the requirements of the AENOR Animal Welfare model, developed together with the Institute for Agrofood Research and Technology (IRTA) and based on the Welfare Quality® reference, the main European standard in the field of animal welfare.
For David Verano, AENOR's Director of Food Industry and Distribution, "This certificate demonstrates the concern of the Costa Food Group for the care of animals, expressing a long-term commitment to good farming practices, in line with the current values of society and consumer preferences. It is also directly correlated with the quality of foodstuffs, since meat products from animals with better welfare offer increased quality and improved yields”.
Costa Food Group products cover the entire production process, from Piensos Costa livestock farms, to the abattoir and cutting room of Costa Food Meat, and the production of meat products in Casademont. "One of our objectives is to continue gaining credibility with consumers. We act ethically and, without a doubt, this certification and its rigorous control, which guarantees animal welfare and traceability until the moment of purchase, are a huge support for our way of working and our products", adds Jorge Costa.
