  • A network of safe establishments for customers.
  • AENOR audits Carrefour centres, hypermarkets, supermarkets, service stations, offices, as well as galleries and shopping centres.

19 May 2020. Carrefour has become the first company in the distribution sector to start the process for AENOR certification against COVID-19. This mark guarantees the proper implementation and deployment of safety and hygiene measures in the company's own hypermarkets, supermarkets, petrol stations, offices and even galleries and shopping centres managed by its subsidiary Carrefour Property.

The certificate is an external endorsement to support the effectiveness of safety measures implemented by the company and that it also complies with the guidelines established by the Ministry of Health in the area of COVID-19 prevention and hygiene for essential services.

For Rami Baitiéh, Executive Director of Carrefour Spain, "our absolute priority is to ensure the health and safety of our customers and collaborators. AENOR's support for our work combating COVID-19 will confirm that the measures we have put in place to make our shops safe spaces for shopping."

"This certification promotes confidence among all groups; A key aspect for the economic and social recovery of the effects of the coronavirus crisis. Carrefour's step is consistent with the important service it has been providing during the pandemic," declared Rafael García Meiro, CEO of AENOR.

The assessment carried out by AENOR assesses aspects such as risk management; occupational health and safety management; the training, information and communications developed; organisational measures (control of shopper-capacity, distances, screens); protection (use of personal protective equipment), as well as good cleaning and hygiene practices, among other things.

Carrefour Objective: safe shopping spaces

Carrefour has launched the large plan of preventive health and safety measures for employees and customers: by carrying out strict controls on shopper-capacity, ensuring the maintenance of safety distances, providing its employees with masks, gloves, gels and face screens, performing temperature checks before the start of each working day, installing 6,000 screens at the tills, opening the tills in an alternating way and also promoting contactless payment and zero paper through their app.

With regard to the hygiene and disinfection activities, it has mobilised 900 cleaning technicians who disinfect the facilities three times a day, make gels and gloves available to its customers and apply a "zero contact" protocol in home deliveries, etc.
