Environmental protection at ELV centres

The provision of a sustainable environmental service in processing end-of-life vehicles is the objective of this certification, which involves the awarding of the AENOR Mark for Environmental Services.

In a sector as regulated as this, the move from traditional scrapping to the modern Processing Centre has been carried out continually over time, thanks to the initiative of standards like UNE 26470 that ensure maximum respect for environmental factors specific to providing vehicle processing services.

The audit process from the standard UNE 26470 includes a visit to the Centre, an examination of the documentation that ensures proper control and monitoring of the processes therein and a detailed inspection of the facilities subject to the certification, including:

  • Perimeter fence.
  • Intake area.
  • Decontamination area.
  • Scrapyard.
  • Recycling, compaction and fragmentation area.
  • Monitoring of temporary storage of the extracted waste.

Benefits for the organisation:

  • Encouraging professionalisation of the company's resources.
  • Control of the service provided.
  • Safety in compliance with the facility's environmental requirements.

Benefits for your clients:

  • Differentiation from the competition.
  • Reinforcement of the company's image.
  • Communication of environmental commitment in a strategic sector.

This certification is applicable to centres authorised to carry out decontamination or other operations to process end-of-life vehicles or their components or materials.

The implementation of a environmental management system in accordance with UNE-EN-ISO 14001 integrates seamlessly with this service provision standard.

Once the different audit processes have been completed and AENOR confirms compliance with the requirements of the Standard UNE, AENOR will grant the Services Environment Certification as well as the licence to use the AENOR Environment Mark. 26470.
