In the European Union and the European Economic Area, components for cableway installations designed to carry people must fulfil the technical criteria set forth in Regulation EU 2016/424 (which amends Directive 2000/9/EC).
This Regulation applies to manufacturers of safety components and subsystems and their authorised representatives, importers, etc., who are responsible for complying with its requirements.
The CE Mark and the EC Declaration of Conformity ensure that safety components and subsystems are able to move freely within the European Market.
The commercialisation of safety components and subsystems requires intervention from a Notified Body like AENOR.
AENOR is authorised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and accredited by the Spanish Accreditation Body (ENAC) for this Regulation.
The subsystems under the scrutiny of an Authorised Body are listed in Annex I of the Regulation, and include: Cables; machines and brakes; vehicles (chairs, booths); command, control and safety devices, etc.
It also applies to subsystem safety components.
The list of harmonised standards established to comply with the Regulation on Cableway Installations Designed to Carry People includes over 20 standards, which is why it is a good idea to check which of these may affect a specific product.
The CE Mark and the EC Declaration of Conformity allow manufacturers of Cableway Installations Designed to Carry People to access the European Market without restrictions, which avoids technical barriers. What's more, the CE Mark is recognised in other markets globally.
The CE Mark ensures consumers that the product will not compromise their safety and guarantees certain common safety standards in Europe.
The requirements and conformity assessment modules are set out in Regulation EU 2016/424 on Cableway Installations.
AENOR is accredited by ENAC and authorised for Module D: Quality assurance of the process used to manufacture safety components and subsystems, in accordance with Annex IV of the Regulation.
Audit visits are included in a straightforward way in the conventional ISO 9001 audits of companies certified by AENOR or other bodies.
