In the European Union and in the European Economic Area, safety components in lifts and fitted lifts must meet the technical criteria established in Directive 2014/33/EU. It is applicable to manufacturers of safety components, or theirauthorised representatives, and to lift fitters, who are responsible for conformity with their requirements.
The CE Mark and the EU Declaration of Conformity ensure that products can be freely traded within the European Market.
For the installation of lifts and the marketing of the related safety components, a notified body such as AENOR is required to certify the modules of quality assurance systems. The companies that install lifts can choose between Modules D, E and H1. The manufacturers of safety components between modules E and H.
AENOR is notified by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and accredited by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) for this certification.
This applies to the safety components listed in Annex III of the Directive: locking devices for hallway doors, parachutes, speed limiters, shock absorbers, electronic functional safety devices, etc..
It is also applicable to lifts, defined in article I of the Directive.
There are more than 20 harmonised standards of the UNE-EN 81 series related to lift applications. The basic standards are UNE-EN 81-1/2, UNE-EN 81-20 and UNE-EN 81-50.
For manufacturers of safety components or installation companies, the CE mark allows unrestricted access to the European Market, which avoids any technical barriers. What's more, the CE Mark is recognised in other markets globally.
The CE Mark ensures consumers that the product will not compromise their safety and guarantees certain common safety standards in Europe.
The certification frameworks are described in the Directive 2014/33/EU.
AENOR's evaluates the quality management systems in accordance with Modules D, E, H, H1.
Documentation assessment and audits are integrated seamlessly and are certified by AENOR or other organisations.
