What is the AENOR Green Building Certification?

What is the AENOR Green Building Certification?

The first certification for sustainable construction and architecture.

This is a pioneering initiative, as for the first time a construction sector certification takes into account ESG criteria.

These criteria of sustainable building performance address environmental, social, and governance issues and are measured in each separate stage of the project. The certification guarantees the performance characteristics of construction materials (quality and safety), specifically focusing on the use of products and processes certified by the AENOR N Mark and the AENOR N Sustainable Mark, and is based on Level(s), the EU assessment and reporting framework.

This new AENOR certification has the broad scope needed to properly address a new way of doing things, since it promotes the commitment of sustainable construction and architecture to the future and the values of society.

The Green Building Certification is designed to build trust among citizens, public administrations and investors.

What does the green building certification process entail?

The model has indicators for 4 mandatory and 2 optional areas of sustainability and includes an assessment of the LEVEL(s) sustainability criteria in a building.

Each of the mandatory areas of sustainability contributes a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 50 points to the sustainability value of the building. In any case, the sum of all agents must be greater than 240.

In rehabilitated buildings, and depending on the rehabilitation project, an assessment will be made on which areas of sustainability should be required.

In already constructed buildings, a LEVEL(s) assessment will be required.

Sustainability marks are assessed within the CTC or by AENOR's technical services.

Once the Audit has been completed, if the implemented system meets the requirements of the Green Building Certification, your organisation will obtain:

  • The AENOR Green Building Certification. Licence to use the AENOR Green Building mark.

To determine the sustainability index of each agent, the following are established:

  • 4 requirements for the organisation (Performance, Environment, Economic and Social)
  • 2 requirements for the product and/or process (Performance and Environment)

Each requirement, which will have a specific consideration, has defined sustainability criteria that are assessed through a series of indicators.

The building's performance will be assessed in accordance with the UNE-EN 15643 and UNE-EN 15978 family of standards and the objectives of the European framework, which are based on 3 themes, 6 macro-objectives and 15 indicators.
