ISO/TS 16949:2009 Quality Management Systems in the Automotive Sector

The benchmark for the automobile industry

The Standard UNE-ISO/TS 16949:2009establishes the specific requirements for implementing the Standard ISO 9001for mass production and original spare parts in the automotive industry. This certification is a necessary requirement for any supplier that supplies directly to manufactures and, depending on the clients' contractual requirements, is also necessary for lower-level suppliers.

The main goal of the Standard UNE-ISO/TS 16949 is to foster ongoing improvement, emphasising the prevention of defects and waste in the supply chain. And that is why this standard ensures that the car's parts, pieces and safety systems meet the requirements specified by the clients, as well as by the applicable regulations. On the other hand, this standard promotes the ongoing improvement of products at better prices, as well as the research and development of new parts that affect the safety of vehicles and their environment.

Because it's a certification based on ISO 9001 it can be integrated with environmental management ISO 14001 and Health and Safety at Work (OHSAS 18001) and Metrology Management (ISO 10012).

Once the Audit process has been completed, if the introduced system adapts to the requirements of the standard UNE-ISO/TS 16949, the organisation obtains:

  • The AENOR Quality Management System Certificate for the Automotive Sector.
  • A licence to use AENOR's Quality Management System mark.
  • The IQNet Certificate is a passport that offers international access to its ISO certification 9001. With it, its AENOR certificate will be recognised by leading certification entities all over the world.
  • The user licence for the IQNet mark.

Furthermore, organisations with management systems certified by AENOR have free access to the AENORnet and a subscription to the AENOR monthly magazine.
