GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP)

Risk Assessment on Social Practice in crop production

GLOBALG.A.P. has developed the GRASP Add-On Module to assess social practices in primary production, addressing specific topics related to the health, security and well-being of workers.

The GRASP module was developed in a joint public and private project between 2005 and 2010, including several test fields and meetings with stakeholders.

All producers of primary agriculture products whose production processes are agricultural product producer, whose production processes are certified by a GLOBALG.A.P. of Integrated Farm Assurance Standard (IFA) for Crops (Fruits and Vegetables) and/or for Plant Propagation Material (PPM), can request a GRASP Assessment via AENOR.

In the GRASP Assessment, the module is not passed or failed. Instead, the level of compliance for each control point is indicated.

Objectives:

The GRASP Add-On standards provide a framework with a set of requirements that producers must comply with, in addition to the GLOBALG.A.P. IFA standard.

Benefits

  • It helps producers to establish a good social management system in its operations.
  • It helps companies to protect one of their most important resources: its people.

It complements the social responsibility requirements of the GLOBALG.A.P. IFA protocol.

By integrating the GRASP Assessment as an additional module of the GLOBALG.A.P. IFA V5 Certification (FRUITS AND VEGETABLES (F&V) and/or VEGETAL PROPAGATION MATERIAL (PPM)), both schemes are assessed together.

In addition, by obtaining the GLOBALG.A.P. IFAV5 with a structure based on risk management, the assessment can be carried out together with the food safety audits of protocols BRC (Global Standard for Food Safety) and IFS (International Food Standard), given that these include requirements for a food safety system.

The assessment system can also be carried out together with other modules to obtain assessments of compliance with ALBERT HEIJN, TESCO NURTURE and the certification of compliance with LEAF MARQUE.

After completing the assessment, AENOR issues a report which can be consulted in the GLOBALG.A.P. database. Access to these reports is restricted to users that have been authorised by the assessment applicant.
