Now more than ever, following the publication of Royal Decree56/2016, which will increase demand for energy services, make offers clearer and improve transparency and trust between energy services providers and potential customers, energy services are an essential objective of Spain's energy market.
The process of buying energy services is long and there are increasingly more energy services offers that are more complex and fragmented.
In order to simplify the purchasing process and cut the period for decision-making, the market must be more structured, clearer and more reliable and it must also be easier to compare different providers' offers.
With this purpose, AENOR certifies Energy Services Providers (ESP) and distinguishes them with a classification - audit / consultancy, operations and/or investment – as well as with a categorisation of their expertise and skills - turnover, number of technicians, price of contracts and number of Autonomous Communities where they operate -.
With this, energy service providers are increasing the trust in the information they offer their stakeholders, objectively reporting their classification and category, which have been verified by AENOR as an independent entity.
Esta evaluación se realiza conforme con una Norma elaborada en el seno de UNE - la UNE-216701. Energy Service Providers Classification - elaborated with the consensus of AMI, ADHAC, ATECYR and A3e, together with ENERAGEN. In addition, 14 of the sector associations and institutions took part in the development process, providing comments, proposals and suggestions.
Once certified, the ESP will become part of the Register of Classified Energy Services Providers.

In the event of meeting the requirements of Standard UNE-216701, once evaluated, the Energy Services Provider will obtain as many certificates and classifications as it requires. The certificate will indicate the categorisation obtained.
Once assessed, the ESP may use the rating/s that correspond to its classification and category. If the requirements for several classifications are met, the ESP will obtain a rating per classification, along with the corresponding category level:
Any energy services provider that wishes to demonstrate its experience in the activities it performs.
