The AENOR N Mark for baked clay roof panels certifies conformity with the applicable requirements, and allows the manufacturer to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements in force in Spain, such as the Technical Building Code

AENOR product certification for baked clay roof panels facilitates on-site reception, which allows for reduced testing and verifications and thus facilitating the technical and documentary management on site.

The AENOR N Mark for ceramic roof panels is accredited by the Spanish Accreditation Body (ENAC) and their products are registered in the register of the Technical Building Code (CTE) as an officially recognised quality standard, by the Ministry of Public Works and Development.

The N Mark for ceramic roof panels covers the products included in Standard UNE 67041

As a compliance assessor, AENOR is a leading product certification entity. The AENOR N Mark now features on more than 100,000 certified products in more than 40 countries and is one of the world's five most popular quality marks.

The AENOR N Mark is a voluntary mark that enables companies to demonstrate that their product complies with certain features stipulated by a UNE, EN or ISO standard or technical specification. This display of conformity is based on rigorous monitoring of manufacturing processes and testing of end products carried out by AENOR, and enables holders of the N Mark to place their high-quality certified products on the market and to instil confidence in customers.

Royal Decree 314/2006, of 17 March, approving the Technical Building Code (CTE), is the regulatory framework that establishes the requirements that must be met by buildings in terms of basic safety and habitability aspects, established in Act 38/1999 of 5 November, on Building Standards (LOE).

The AENOR N Mark is recognised by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport as a standard of quality of the CTE. This recognition means that the Administration is sufficiently confident in the products certified under the AENOR N Mark considering that the use of these products in buildings contributes to compliance with the basic requirements set forth in legislation. For this reason, use of AENOR N Mark products benefits all agents involved in constructing a building.

This way, the AENOR N Mark can provide the following advantages:

The manufacturer

  • Better understanding of a product due to the exhaustive control the AENOR Mark establishes with respect to the same
  • Products that do not comply with relevant standards or regulations can be detected before they enter the market
  • Decreases production costs as a result of greater control during the manufacturing process
  • There are commercial grounds to introduce the product into new markets and facilitate access to works

Business providers and monitoring agents

  • Fewer or no checks upon delivery are required for goods provided for by the CTE
  • Decreases the time it takes to perform the work
  • Ensures that products used in works comply with applicable regulatory requirements
  • Guarantee that the product has previously been verified in order to determine compliance with the minimum requirements of basic CTE documents

The end user

  • Properties are built using materials of proven quality
  • Product certified by a renowned entity and global leader in certifying building products

The certification of ceramic roof slabs consists of two separate phases. In the first phase, certification applicants must implement a documentation system based on ISO 9001. At the same time, they must control the products and measurement equipment as set out in the certification regulations.

Subsequently, AENOR's Technical Services visit the production facility in order to verify compliance with the requirements of the certification document. Samples of the models to be certified are taken and sent to one of the laboratories, accredited by ENAC, that collaborate with AENOR in the certification process.

After receiving the test results, AENOR, acting as Secretary of the Technical Building Committee, presents a confidential report of all the activities, which is then assessed by the Committee.

If the decision is satisfactory, AENOR will be recommended to grant the certificate. Alternatively, the applicant will be informed of the reasons for refusal and specific complementary activities that need to be carried out.

After issuance of the certificate, the company progresses to the certification monitoring phase. During this phase, AENOR's services make annual visits to the production facilities to confirm that the criteria and requirements established in the certification regulations are being applied and maintained. During the visit, samples of the certified models are taken on a rotational basis for testing in an accredited laboratory.

The Secretary prepares and presents an annual report of all the activities to the Committee which decides, based on the obtained results, either to maintain the certificate or whether additional activities need to be carried out.

After completing the certification process, the organisation obtains:

  • AENOR product certificate and its technical annex
  • A licence to use AENOR's Mark of certified products
