NEW VERSION BRC V.9:

The BRC scheme is one of the most widely used models internationally so that distributors and supermarkets qualify their own-brand product suppliers, ensuring that they comply with certain requirements that guarantee the safety, quality and legality of its food products.

The focus of the new edition 9 continues to be to guide audits towards verifying the application of good manufacturing practices. The vast majority of requirements have not been substantially modified with minor modifications being made to the wording to clarify different aspects.

Some of the most relevant changes in the new version 9 are: the requirements of the food safety culture have been reviewed, the drafting of the requirements on HACCP, subcontracting, equipment, the content of the BRCGS working group statement on the additional requirements for sites which undertake animal primary conversion has been incorporated and the requirements of the standard have been colour coded. Furthermore, mandatory use of the unannounced audit option once every three years has been included within the announced audit modality, as well as an announced mixed audit option to incorporate remote evaluation into the auditing process.

It is addressed to companies supplying any agro-food product, under their own brand, in stages subsequent to primary production.

Because of the structure of the scheme and the significant overlap with food safety requirements, it is easily integrated with the certification of the IFS Protocol (International Food Standard) and of the standard UNE IN-ISO 22000 (Food safety management systems) and the FSSC 22000 certification allow for the possibility of integrating the systems and optimising the processes with the resulting reduction in audit duration and costs.

It can also be carried out together with the ISO 9001 (Quality management systems).​​


Once the Audit process has been completed, if the implemented system meets the protocol's requirements, the organisation obtains:

  • The AENOR BRC certificate - Global Standard for Food Safety (or, where applicable, BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials or BRC Global Standard - Storage and Distribution or BRC Global Standard – Agents and Brokers).
