N Mark for steel products for concrete

The AENOR N Mark certifies conformity with the requirements applicable to steel products for concrete, guaranteeing compliance with the Structural Code approved by Royal Decree 470/2021, of 29 June, as well as with the voluntary requirements defined by the technical conditions included in the Officially Recognised Quality Mark (DCOR), which give the products obtained a higher level of quality.

The N Mark for steel products for concrete is a DCOR, a mark recognised by the Ministry and is accredited by the National Accreditation Entity ENAC.. The AENOR N Mark for steel products for concrete allows customers to benefit from the advantages that the Structural Code reserves for officially recognised DCOR marks.

These are the Products Covered, the standards of application, and their reference in the Structural Code:

  • Steel rebar: UNE 36068, UNE-EN 10080, Article 34 of the Structural Code

  • Corrugated bars with special characteristics of ductility. UNE 36065, UNE-EN 10080, Article 34 of the Structural Code

  • Smooth and corrugated steel wires: UNE 36094, Article 36 of the Structural Code

  • Non-alloy steel wire rod for the manufacture of wire for mesh or prestressing: UNE 36066 or UNE-EN ISO 16120-4

  • Electro welded steel mesh: UNE 36060, UNE 36061, UNE 36092, UNE-EN 10080, Article 35 of the Structural Code

  • Basic electrowelded steel lattice girders: UNE 36739, UNE-EN 10080:2006, Article 35 of the Structural Code

  • Distribution of steel products for concrete: UNE 36820

  • Passive steel reinforcements for structural concrete (reinforcing steel): UNE 36831:1997, UNE-EN ISO 17660-2:2008, articles 35, 49.2, 49.3, 49.4, 49.5, Para. 5.1.1 Of Annex 14 to the Structural Code

The Structural Code approved by Royal Decree 470/2021 of 29 June lays out a series of technical specifications that products and execution processes must meet. While voluntary, these certified products can boast quality markings that guarantee their compliance with standards, regulatory provisions or individual regulations from issuing agencies.

The AENOR N Mark is recognised by the Ministry as an officially recognised DCOR logo of the Structural Code, distinguishing products with a level of guarantee higher than the minimum required by having:

  • Rigorous control of the product at the factory
  • AENOR's verification through audits and inspections of facilities, raw materials and quality management systems
  • The performance of tests in independent laboratories accredited by ENAC in accordance with the standard EN ISO 17025

AENOR, an entity accredited by ENAC in accordance with the EN ISO 17065 standard and endorsed by the competent Administration, responsible for official recognition. In this way, the AENOR N Mark, being DCOR for structural steel products, provides the following benefits:

For planners and builders:

  • Streamlines the calculation and design of the structure
  • Favourable calculation criteria (lower safety coefficients for materials, small anchor lengths, etc.)
  • Before receiving the materials, it reduces the required documentary control and, in some cases, allows the company to avoid inspecting the raw materials, the manufacturer's facilities and the preliminary product testing
  • In the supply phase, it prevents the need for experimental verifications, removing all testing during on-site reception, representing significant savings when monitoring work quality

For management and the property:

  • Provides confidence by having more information on the products placed on site, including their traceability and factory controls.
  • Rigorous quality control at the factory
  • Simplified control programme
  • Savings on monitoring work
  • Reduction of non-conforming products and associated costs
  • Quick intervention during incidences affecting product quality
  • Participation of an independent certification body and Public Administration
  • Reduction of risks
  • Elimination of bad practices

Using all the information on the activities performed, the Technical Certification Committee (independent body comprising all the interested parties: manufacturers, the Administration, users, monitoring entities and AENOR) will either propose to AENOR that the Mark be granted, or request that one of the activities be repeated due to non-compliance.

Once the Certificate has been granted, the process will continue as the monitoring activities required to keep it must be performed. Conducts the auditing activities, inspection, sample taking and testing on a semi-annual or annual basis. The result is evaluated by the Technical Certification Committee who decides whether the AENOR certification is retained.
